What is a gemach?
An old idea, quietly powerful
Gemach is short for the Hebrew gemilut chasadim — acts of loving-kindness. For generations, communities have kept a shared fund to lend, freely and without interest, to any neighbor who needs a hand.
It's often considered one of the highest forms of giving, because a loan lets someone meet a hard moment while keeping their independence and their dignity fully intact. You aren't a case to be managed; you're a neighbor to be helped.
The JOC Gemach, a project of Jews of the Circle in Boca Raton, carries that tradition forward with modern, private tools — so kindness can move at the speed of life.

Is it really completely interest-free?
Yes — always. You repay the exact amount you borrow, with no interest and no fees of any kind. A gemach loan is an act of kindness, not a product.
Who can apply for a loan?
The Gemach serves members of our community facing a range of needs. The best way to find out if we can help is to submit a short application — it's private and there's no obligation.
How much can I borrow, and how do I repay?
Loan amounts and repayment schedules are set together with you, based on your needs and what's comfortable to repay. You'll see your full schedule in your portal, add it to your calendar, and receive friendly reminders along the way.
Will I need a guarantor?
Some loans are backed by one or more guarantors, who can review and e-sign the agreement securely from their own device. We'll let you know what's needed for your specific request.
How do I sign the loan agreement?
Entirely online. You'll review your agreement and sign it securely — along with any guarantors — without printing, scanning, or mailing a thing.
Is my information kept private?
Absolutely. Borrowing is a personal matter, and we treat it that way. Your application and documents are confidential, and your portal is protected by a one-time email code rather than a password to remember.
Where does the money come from?
From the generosity of our community. Donors and funders seed the Gemach, and as loans are repaid, those same dollars are lent again — so the fund keeps helping, year after year.
Can I give, and is my gift tax-deductible?
